trying to figure out how on earth this thread isn't blowing up with interest... sigh i guess it doesn't appeal to all types...

I know AF1 were trying to boost a 300 too... I am dying to get the spare cash to try... I was thinking of supercharging though, and on an Aprilia Scarabeo 250ie.

If that turbo actually works, I can't immagine where they found one small enough to be driven by only 300ccs

When I was a kid they had these tubes to blow into, with a tiny turbo fan in them. WHEEEEEEEEE

Somebody had a thread a couple years ago that had a small turbo in a 300. It might have come from the turbo on an industrial jackhammer. Not sure if that 300 had the jackhammer or if it was in another bike.

I would be surprised if a jackhammer turbo could withstand the heat to which an exhaust turbo is subjected.

As the owner of an extensively modified Subaru STI, I love the idea of a turbocharged 300cc. I would worry about detonating the engine. A little bit more to forced induction than slapping on a turbocharger. Watch your right foot and leg too - I bet it gets hot back there. As a fun experiment with someone else's engine, I say go for it. Turn the GTS into into a hooligan wheelie machine.

Translation from OP's link.

Vespa GTS 300 ie Turbo
42 hp at the test!
Details on tour.

After nearly a year of development, the rocket is ready for launch: 42 hp at the rear at 1.2 bar boost pressure. Not for everyday use, but spectacular! After about 200 km (easy) PR trips to various meetings, etc. We do our project 2011 free with a heavy heart, for the new season and new ideas are on the horizon ... Your team Börni Graz

For me the limitations of a Scooter are the rear weight bias, flexible step-through design, limited suspension travel and small wheels.

Putting a turbo will magnify these issues to the point of the absurd.

Whee!!! Whoa!!! Aaahh!! Crunch.

T5bitsa69,

It's just because I've never seen a turbo supercharger that small.

this turbo vespa ended up on ebay. I translate the text.

"
The engine was completely disassembled by us to first compute the compaction, this was then lowered by means of a specially made for our needs piston from 12: 1 to 8.5: 1. So not like all the cheap tunes by means of a compression reduction plate! Furthermore, we have replaced the original organic cylinder head gasket with a metal head gasket to withstand pressure and temperature. When that was done engine was back in and then we went to fitting the turbocharger (IHI RH ... ball bearing) to the engine with all the brackets and flanges, which were then all chrome plated. Now we went to adjust the charge air piping (Samco) and the entire oil lines (stainless steel with Teflon soap from motorsport). After all the technical work was done, we went to the search for a suitable control unit. After a long search, we found someone who had experience with turbo motorcycles, then offered us the right control unit. When the engine finally ran there was a problem, because the loader was below the level of the oil sump we always had an accumulation of oil in the loader, which forced us to install an oil return pump, which now sits in the battery compartment, forcing us back to a big one Rebuild battery to two smaller ones. So, that was done now we went to vote. After countless test stands we had brought the whole driving ready at the moment, the boost pressure is set to 1.36 bar and the engine makes so 42.05 hp at 1.5 bar we had a little over 50 hp. Since the whole but should be synonymous, we decide that 42 hp rich. I think that's enough of the conversion, it can anyone who would like to come to us to look at the whole and make yourself a picture of the conversion."

"installed parts:
forged pistons
Metal head gasket
IHI RH .. Turbocharger ball bearing
Scorpion sports exhaust shortened in length
Oil pressure and temperature gauge
Boost Gauge
Oil return pump from motorsport
Oil flow cooler CNC milled
2x 5Ah batteries
Samco charge air piping
Open blow-off of Jansen Motorsport hisses at the gas take away;)
Bosch Mapsensor
Bosch throttle valve potentiometer
Freely programmable control unit regulates the mixture depending on the set boost pressure
Malossi Sportvariomatik

10-spoke rims
Dunlop gt301 tire vo and hi
Malossi sports suspension vo and hi hardness and rebound adjustable
Red calipers

Total price of conversions about EUR 6000, - WITHOUT working time !!!!!!!!!!!
Original price of the Vespa in Austria EUR 5499, -
Jerder's serious interest in the Vespa has come and likes to come and sample it."

auction ended at 3343 euro
